Fix Your Stained Teeth

What do you do with stained teeth? How do you keep your teeth white? It can be challenging to keep your pearly whites, well, white. So what's a smile loving person to do? Well getting your teeth professionally cleaned regularly will certainly help. But what can be done in between cleaning appointments?

Toothbrush, baking soda in black container, and charcoal in glass jar on white surface

Try this easy homemade toothpaste. Its secret weapon is activated charcoal. Activated charcoal is great for many things like cleaning teeth, and skin too. It draws out stains and yucky grim from teeth.

I added some other fav ingredients too for additional health benefits. Bentonite clay can add minerals like magnesium, silica and potassium, and baking soda to neutralize acids made by plaque bacteria.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 Teaspoon Activated Charcoal

  • 2 Tablespoons Baking Soda

  • 2 Tablespoons Bentonite clay

  • 2 Tablespoons Coconut Oil

  • 15 Drops of peppermint Essential Oil (Optional- but strongly recommended, bentonite clay and baking soda make this mixture taste really salty! But their benefits outweighs the taste. Promise!

***to make this simple, and make an effective tooth powder, omit the coconut oil, and just combine all other the ingredients together! Voila! Toothpowder!***

Directions:

Melt the coconut oil in a small sauce pan (you can also use a double boiler).

Once the coconut oil is melted (try not to boil it), pour it into a small bowl and mix in the activated charcoal, bentonite clay, and baking soda. Once all those are mixed, then mix in the essential oils, it will smell very, VERY strong, BUT will not taste as strong as it smells.

Pour the mixture into a small container. I used a small glass jar. Store in a cool dry place.

How To Use:

Using this whitening toothpaste 2 times a week will help lighten the teeth. The charcoal can be a bit coarse, so if any discomfort occurs, discontinue use for a week or so, and then resume after about 1-2 weeks. Be cautioned- The charcoal is pretty messy and can get all over, so make sure to keep a towel close to wipe up any pesky messes!

***REMEMBER dental work, like crowns, porcelain fillings and veneers on the front teeth WILL NOT whiten at all. They will remain the color they were made. Only natural teeth will whiten and change in color***

Happy Whitening!
